Sustainable Bags, Handcrafted from Upcycled Saris
I was a Sari makes sustainable bags from upcycled saris: shopping bags, tote bags, weekend bags, quilted bags, pouches and evening clutches. Each one is unique.
Every bag is handcrafted by women artisans in Mumbai from a pre-loved sari, so its print and colour are unrepeatable. The result is practical, durable design made with zero textile waste.
What makes I was a Sari bags sustainable?
Each bag is made from an existing sari rather than new fabric, keeping textiles in use and out of landfill. Production is hand-finished and small-batch, and every purchase supports fair, dignified work for women artisans in India.
What's included in the bags collection?
The collection covers everyday carry, travel and occasion pieces:
- Shopping bags and reusable bags: lightweight bags that fold away easily.
- Tote bags: roomy work totes and quilted beach bags for daily life.
- Everyday bags: versatile go-to styles for hands-free ease.
- Weekend bags: quilted duffle, barrel and bowling bags for short trips.
- Quilted bags: our hand-quilted styles, soft, padded and durable.
- Functional bags: laptop sleeves, belt bags and gift wraps.
- Pouches: zip pouches, vanity sets and cases for small essentials.
- Evening bags & clutches: framed clutches with metallic chains for special occasions.
Why is every bag unique?
Because each one is cut from a different sari, no two bags share the same print, colour or texture. Every piece carries the history of the fabric it was made from.
