A relaxed silhouette paired with an adjustable waist defines the belted tops in the I was a Sari collection. Designed with 3/4 sleeves and a fluid construction, these tops can be worn loosely or shaped at the waist, depending on how the belt is tied. Upcycled sari fabrics add softness, movement, and a distinctive character to every piece, resulting in garments that feel adaptable, expressive, and easy to wear.
Belted tops are relaxed-fit tops designed with an integrated or removable belt that allows the silhouette to be adjusted. In the I was a Sari collection, this design creates a natural balance between structure and ease, offering versatile pieces that adapt to different looks and moments.
Rather than following a fixed shape, belted tops are meant to be styled in multiple ways. The relaxed cut ensures comfort, while the 3/4 sleeves add balance and everyday practicality. The belt can be tied to define the waist or left loose for a more fluid fit, making these tops suitable for a wide range of body types.
Each belted top begins with a pre-loved sari. These fabrics are carefully repurposed by women artisans in Mumbai, extending the life of existing textiles and reducing waste. Produced in small quantities, every top remains unique in colour, pattern, and texture.
Flexibility is central to the design of belted tops. They can be styled for work, leisure, or travel by adjusting the belt and pairing them with trousers, skirts, or layered pieces. Lightweight fabrics and a relaxed structure make them comfortable across seasons and easy to integrate into everyday wardrobes.
Because each piece is made from a different sari, no two belted tops are ever the same. Variations in print and colour reflect a circular design approach that values individuality, craftsmanship, and thoughtful reuse.

Between two sizes? Go by your chest measurement first for tops, or hips for bottoms, see the notes below.
Use a soft tape, wear light clothing, and keep the tape level all the way around.
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, level across the back. Keep it snug, not tight, and read the measurement where the tape meets.
Find your natural waistline, usually the narrowest point of your torso. Don't hold your stomach in, keep the tape level and comfortably snug.
Stand with feet together and wrap the tape around the fullest part of your hips and seat, straight and level front to back.
