An A-line skirt is one of those garments that quietly earns its place in a wardrobe. In the I was a Sari collection, this midi skirt is designed to sit comfortably at the waist and widen gradually towards the hem, creating a balanced silhouette that feels easy and flattering. Crafted from upcycled sari fabrics, each skirt brings together softness, movement, and distinctive patterns that make everyday dressing feel more personal.
An A-line skirt takes its name from its shape: fitted at the waist and gently flaring out, forming a subtle “A” silhouette. This design offers structure without stiffness and allows natural movement as you walk. At I was a Sari, the A-line skirt is reinterpreted using repurposed sari textiles, giving a classic form a unique visual identity shaped by colour and print.
Rather than clinging to the body, the A-line skirt follows a relaxed, fluid line. The waist is designed to sit comfortably and is finished with a discreet hook closure, keeping the fit secure without adding bulk. From there, the skirt opens softly into a midi-length hem, offering freedom of movement and a silhouette that works well across different body types and everyday situations.
Each A-line skirt begins with a sari that already exists. These pre-loved fabrics are carefully selected and transformed by women artisans in Mumbai, extending the life of textiles that would otherwise go unused. Small-scale production and limited quantities ensure that every skirt is unique, reflecting an ethical approach to fashion rooted in reuse, craftsmanship, and responsibility.
Versatility is central to the A-line skirt. It can be worn casually with simple tops, styled for work, or paired with knitwear and layers as the seasons change. The midi length makes it practical for everyday wear, while the flared shape keeps the look relaxed and comfortable from morning to evening.
Because each piece is made from a different sari, no two A-line skirts are ever the same. Variations in colour, pattern, and texture are part of the design itself, reflecting a circular philosophy that values individuality over uniformity. The result is a skirt designed to be worn often, styled easily, and kept for years.

Between two sizes? Go by your chest measurement first for tops, or hips for bottoms, see the notes below.
Use a soft tape, wear light clothing, and keep the tape level all the way around.
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, level across the back. Keep it snug, not tight, and read the measurement where the tape meets.
Find your natural waistline, usually the narrowest point of your torso. Don't hold your stomach in, keep the tape level and comfortably snug.
Stand with feet together and wrap the tape around the fullest part of your hips and seat, straight and level front to back.
