Leisurewear has become the wardrobe staple in these unprecedented times that we are living in. Right from work meetings over Zoom calls to Covid-compliant get-togethers on the weekends or virtual happy hour in places that are still under lockdown, leisurewear has risen to this occasion of people shifting to comfort dressing. And thankfully, that’s something we have been doing here at I was a Sari, since its inception. We have always prioritized comfort along with style. Our products ranging from PJ sets, kaftans, tunic sets, skirts to mule shoes and a lot more are perfect for staying in or going out.

According to a study by US consultancy, McKinsey & Company only about a third of US consumers are engaging in normal out-of-home activities, and 80 percent say they’re concerned when they leave home.

“Spending reflects this shift, with more consumers spending money on at-home activities such as gardening as well as software and electronics for working or learning from home. When consumers do venture out, it’s most often to shop for groceries and other necessities,” the report said.

Over the last fashion month, this consumer shift has been reflected on the runways of Milan and Paris and in the emergence of new brands unfurling collections full of face shields, stay-home/on the town slippers, and fashion-forward comfort wear like caftans, prairie dresses and sleepwear that doubles as aperitvo-wear… just to name a few. There has also been a noted verve for circular brands like ours, founded on an ethical, eco-conscious business model. As they see their purse straps tightened, consumers want to be comforted by the fact that they are making a difference and changing lives at the same time.

Born as a laid-back jet setters wardrobe, I was a Sari continues to upcycle pre-loved Saris into poolside ensembles and easy travel wear with a twist, with the hope that we will one day party on the beaches of Bali and the terraces of Barcelona one day soon!
Until then, PJ setskaftans, and kimonos are the current top picks by our customers, best suitable for this Covid-era wardrobe!

Throughout the pandemic, we have learned a lot about our community of local artisans and have been comforted by their fortitude and will to improve their craft and succeed. Their willingness has fuelled our production with an inspiring spirit and has been the key to our brand’s success throughout the crisis.

Our growing family continues to give us hope that circular brands like ours will weather the storm and adapt to the changing world around it.
